Vector Data (blanking files)
The actual rainfall/runoff model is a grid model calculated by Golden Software's Surfer. GIS data in vector format are only used in the form of blanking files.
The Model has a user-friendly interface to generate blanking files out of ArcView Shape files.
Blanking files are used at two different instances.
- In the core model, a blanking file called nation.bln is used to cut off all grid cells beyond the national borders. This file must reside in the model (system) directory as defined in the configuration file.
- In the post processing, blanking files are used to calculate water volumes for individual catchments out of the nation wide grid files. It is suggested to store these files in a directory called "blanking files", the name of the files is not preset but determined by the code field of the original shape file.
