General Overview of the Pre-Processing Module

The Pre-Processing Module has been developed under MS-Access using VBA. It permits the detailed forecast of water demands as well as anthropogenic water resources. Data are read from / written to the central ORACLE database or, in the optional off-line operation, a copy of the relevant data tables under MS-Access.

Inputs of the Pre-Processing Module belong to two different groups:

The largest portion of consumption-related statistics are billing data from WAJ (Water Authority of Jordan). They were processed to spatially fit to the demand centers of WIS (Water Information System) but data were kept on quarterly level (=3 month totals).

Outputs of the Pre-Processing Module are monthly water demands per demand center (= settlement), treatment plant etc. Thereby, the salinity class is stored as well. The module calculates monthly consumption for historic years and permits particularly the calculation of monthly demands for future scenarios. Together with data on other resources and irrigation demands, the results of the pre-processing module are than post-processed in the water balancing module.

The operation of the pre-processing module (user-interface) is completely through graphical controls, starting from the spatial selection of irrigation centers with a GIS module via visualisation of results (both graphical and tabular) to the saving of results. All user-entries are recorded in log tables, thus permitting the review and modification of them or their exchange with other users (through an upload to the central database).
